Agonist

Last updated

A molecule that activates a receptor to produce a response. Many peptides are receptor agonists — GLP-1 agonists, for example, switch on the GLP-1 receptor.

How strongly and how long an agonist activates its receptor helps explain why two peptides aimed at the same target can behave differently in practice. A partial agonist produces a weaker response than a full one even at saturating amounts. None of this changes the reconstitution math, but it does shape why dosing schedules and target doses differ from one agonist to the next.
