Diluent

Last updated

The liquid used to reconstitute a lyophilized peptide — usually bacteriostatic water. It dissolves the powder so it can be drawn and measured.

In peptide work the diluent is almost always bacteriostatic water, though sterile water is used when a vial is meant for a single session. Its only job is to dissolve the powder into a measurable liquid, but the amount chosen is not incidental: it is the exact variable that sets concentration and therefore the units drawn. Picking a diluent volume is effectively the first dosing decision.
