Peptide sequence

Last updated

The specific order of amino acids in a peptide, usually written as three-letter codes (e.g. Gly-Glu-Pro…). The sequence determines the peptide’s shape and activity.

Even a single swapped amino acid can change how a peptide folds and which receptor it engages, which is why closely named variants can behave quite differently. The sequence also dictates molecular weight, the figure a mass spectrometry report on a certificate of analysis checks against. Sequence length has no bearing on reconstitution math, though; concentration still comes from vial milligrams divided by the water added.
