Mass spectrometry

Last updated

A lab technique that confirms a peptide’s molecular weight, verifying it is the right molecule. It is usually reported alongside HPLC purity on a COA.

Mass spectrometry answers a different question than a purity assay: it confirms the molecule weighs what the intended peptide should weigh, guarding against a wrong or mislabelled sequence. That is why a COA usually pairs it with HPLC purity, one verifying identity and the other quantifying impurities. Neither figure, on its own, tells a person the exact peptide mass to enter into a dosing calculation.
